In order to make the goblet, we used an impression device attached to the ShopBot and a pneumatic squeezer, what we call the forming jaws. The CNC blacksmith moves over the shaped clay that is placed on a rotary device that rotates continuously. The squeezer is set up so that until the clay has formed a proper neck profile at the cross section, the piece will not rotate. Once it is created, the piece rotates and starts to form the goblet. Finally, the impression device creates the divots into cup to make it the proper shape.
